Linux Mint offers a great multi tasking experience with minimal resources usage. Here you can get comparatively faster switching between applications, increased fluidity of interface and more responsive windows. Linux Mint is faster and lighter than Ubuntu and Windows, especially for computers with old and under powered hardware. The OS boots up within 15 to 20 seconds and shut downs within a couple of seconds.

Completely Out of the Box Ready to use OS.

A bundle of essential applications ( including proprietary media codecs) makes Linux Mint a completely out of the box Operating System. In Microsoft Windows versions, you need to install essential application software like Office applications, Media Codecs, Image editors etc separately. Here in Linux Mint is included with browser plugins, media codecs, support for DVD playback, Java and Flash. Here the list of some bundled applications.

editing the text within immages with google Chrome extention

hi buddies,
since this pluggin also supports OCR feature, might be helpful for us as wel.
lets have a try of it!

To manipulate the texts within an image, you need to download the same and use some image editing applications like Adobe Photoshop, Gimp, InkScape etc. If you are an average computer user, it is always painful. Now a new Google Chrome plugin comes enables you to copy, erase, edit or translate the texts within the images. With the help of this plugin from Project Naptha  users can select the texts that appear in the photos and manipulate the same. After installing the plugin , just select text on the image, then you can get the Right Click context menu options like Copy Text, Open in New Tab, Language, Translation and Advanced Options. This feature is completely, similar to using a "Content Aware" feature of Adobe Photoshop.

Erase the Text from Images.

To erase the text from an image, just select the desired text and in right click context menu select the Erase Text Option from Translate main menu. The Plugin intelligently captures the colours from the areas around the text and fills the gaps of deleted letters.

The extension uses various technologies, including algorithms OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and Microsoft, Google libraries to identify the characters of different alphabets in almost all images analyzed.

A problem with the extension is that it can not identify all texts of an image, and even selectable can sometimes be interpreted in the wrong way. For example in the above shown sample image, the application failed to erase the Texts 800 Km, and 1200 Km. Moreover the plugin doesn’t support the vertically arranged texts.

The programmer and brain behind the extension Kevin Kwok says that, the plugin will  shortly receive new updates to fix these flaws and a version for Mozilla Firefox . You can download the Project Naptha Plugin from Google Chrome Store

Sub $100 entry-level Nexus smartphone in the works

Google’s Nexus smartphone are generally great value for their price and offer the latest and greatest in terms of Android operating system. According to a new report from MTKSJ, Google is currently working on an ultra-cheap variant of Nexus smartphone which would bear a sub $100 (Rs 6,500) price tag. Google is said to be collaborating with MediaTek this time by using their processor chipset in this entry-level Nexus smartphone.
Nexus
MediaTek is known for its great value for money mobile processor SoCs which are widely used in the entry-level as well as mid-range Android smartphones. This would be the first time ever Google will be using a MediaTek processor. This goes on to show the increasing popularity of MediaTek as an SoC provider. A lot of smartphone brands from China and India such as Gionee, Micromax, Karbonn, Xolo, etc use MediaTek as the primary SoC provider in their smartphones. Earlier, Google has collaborated with Samsung for Nexus S and Nexus 10, TI for Galaxy Nexus, Nvidia for Nexus 7 and Qualcomm for Nexus One, Nexus 4, Nexus5 and Nexus 7 (2013).
Looks like the real battle this year would be in the entry-level priced smartphone market as Google, Obi mobiles and Motorola would be focussing in this market space.

how to sideload apps on androide?

really simple, sweet and good explanation about sideloading with androide from one of my favorite blog– phonearena.com
read on,
You’ve probably heard it many times before - the beauty of Android lies in its openness, but what does this really mean? Today, we look at one particular feature that makes Google’s platform stand out, and is a great example of openness. We’re speaking about the possibility to sideload apps, of course.
First, though, what does ‘sideloading’ an app mean? It is just another word to say ‘installing’ an app from a source other than the official Google Play store. Why would you want to sideload apps? Simple - you might want to test an app that is not yet published and sideloading is the best way to do this.

How to sideload apps on Android
By default, sideloading is disabled to protect your device, but enabling is very simple. You have to do the following:
Go into Settings -> Security -> Look for the Device Administration tab -> Check Unknown Sources.
With this done, you are all ready to sideload apps. In order to do this, you must - of course - have the original APK file for an application. You can put that APK on your phone by connecting it to a computer via a USB cable, or download it from the web, if you want to try out someone else’s APK. If you get it on the web, the file will usually be in the ‘Downloads’ folder on your Android device.
Using a file manager application, find the APK file you want to sideload and tap on it. You’ll see what permissions are required, and the ‘Install’ button at the bottom. Tap it, and you’re done - you’ve successfully sideloaded the APK!

Motorola Moto E specifications leaked, will be cheaper than the Moto G

It looks like Motorola is looking to replicate its success of Moto G in the low-end price range with the upcoming Moto E. The specifications of the Moto E have been leaked in Mexico and from the looks of it, the Moto E will be priced lower than the Moto G.
Motorola Moto E Specifications Leaked
Motorola Moto E Specifications
Motorola Moto E Specifications
◾4.3 inch touchscreen, 800 x 480 pixels (expected)
◾1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM, microSD card slot
◾5MP primary camera, front-facing secondary camera (probably VGA)
◾Android v4.4 KitKat
◾dual-SIM, 3G, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, FM Radio
◾124.8 x 64.8 x 6.2mm
The device will be much thinner than both Moto G and the Moto X at 6.2mm. The Moto E is expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks in Mexico with a model number XT1021. As per said specifications, it would compete with the likes of Nokia X, Galaxy Star Pro Duos, Galaxy S Duos 2 and the Sony Xperia E1. Obi Mobiles is also looking to disrupt the low-end market with their devices.

The 8 Useful DOS Commands That You Should Memorize

The 8 Useful DOS Commands That You Should Memorize
hey there buddies,  back with another good post.
this time is about the dos, "disk operating system".
here a few commands taken from
www.makeuseof.com
that we must know as this makes few things really so easy.
read on the artical:
there are quite a few people out
there that don’t realize how easy it is to troubleshoot and fix certain computer issues using a few simple key entries. I’m not about to argue that DOS isn’t outdated. However, Windows 7 still features a command prompt window.
So, for those of you that like the idea of typing in a few commands to avoid the hassle of several mouse clicks, I’m going to review eight of what I consider to be the most essential and helpful DOS commands that are still available in Windows 7.
The DOS Prompt Window Is Not Missing!
If you are one of those folks that became convinced the DOS prompt was officially wiped out with Windows 7, all you have to do is click on the Start menu, and in the “Search programs and files” field, just type “cmd” and press enter. Voila – there’s your DOS window.

Assoc: Associated Extension
Not sure what default program you have set up to handle ZIP, MP3 or HTML files? A quick and easy way to check for your default file associations is the “assoc” command. Just open a command prompt and type “assoc” followed by the file extension.

The response is the installed application that is currently configured to handle that file type. As you can see above, WinRAR is my ZIP file handler, MS Word handles doc files, and Chrome is set up as the default for HTML files.
Tree: View Directory Structure
If you’ve created a virtual spiderweb of files and directories on your computer, it can get pretty confusing to remember where everything is. Sometimes it would be nice to have a diagram showing directories and sub-directories. Using the Tree command, you can do just that.
First, navigate to the directory you want to get the file structure of, and then type “tree > myfile.txt“. The text file can be called anything you like.

The command writes the entire directory structure, completed with all folders, into the text file, which you can print out for easy viewing.

The formatting may look a little bit funky, but if you look closely you’ll see that the directories are all there, they just might be prefaced with some weird symbols.
File Search & Comparison
If you ever have two text files – particularly two very large text files – the file compare (fc) command is all you need to identify and synchronize file differences.
The usage is about as easy as it can get. Just type “fc” followed by the names of the two files.

The system will respond by showing the lines from both files where there are differences.  This command can become pretty handy when you’re collaborating with people and trying to sync up differences between files that several people are working on.
If you only need to find a file on your system, and you know the name of the file, the “find” command is far faster than any point and click operation you can do. Just do a “dir” command to the directory you want to search, and then “|” followed by the name of the file.

The system will respond with the directory where the file is stored.
Network Commands
I really don’t think there are easier ways available to do network troubleshooting than the sort of tools you get in DOS commands. For example, if you want to know your basic network setup, just do a quick “ipconfig” and you will get details like your computer IP and the default gateway (which is typically your home router IP address).

If you’re not sure you have a good network connection, try doing a “ping” to a known IP address or a website. You’ll see it echo back with an IP address if the link is good. If you want to see all network connections currently active from your PC, type “netstat“.

This shows you all network connections from your PC. It may be a good idea to search through these carefully to make sure that there’s no surprises in the form of malware or a virus hijacking your bandwidth.
Windows Utilities
Finally, there are a multitude of DOS commands that are invaluable as system troubleshooting tools. For example, to view a list of active processes, just open up a command prompt and type “tasklist“.

If you see any process you want to kill, just type “taskkill” follwoed by the image name.
Nervous about whether a particular system file became corrupted after a recent virus infection? Just type “sfc /VERIFYFILE=” followed by the full path of the file.

Windows will check to be sure it is the original. You can also scan all system files like this at once by typing “sfc /scannow”
Finally, probably one of the most useful DOS commands available – the AT command. With “AT”, you have the ability to schedule tasks to run on a regular routine, all from a simple command prompt.

Setting up the AT commands can be a little tricky, so type “at help” if you need parameter help. In the command above I set up the computer to automatically archive all files in the temp directory to the archive folder. You could do similar jobs to routinely back up important files on your computer to a mapped external drive.
As you can see, there’s still plenty that you can do with the command prompt. Having these resources at your fingertips can really make it a lot easier to troubleshoot, maintain and repair compu

19 mind blowing tips for IOS users.

hello buddies,
another good post for IOS users.
some good tips to increase ur productivity.
believe me, while many of them we already know, but still there few seems new that  we might not know?
so read on!

You spend, like, half of your life on that thing. Time to figure out what it really does.

1. On the iPad: Make typing more comfortable by switching your keyboard to thumb mode.
On the iPad: Make typing more comfortable by switching your keyboard to thumb mode.
Simply swipe two fingers across the keyboard. This displays a different keyboard, which allows you to type with your thumbs the same way you type on your iPhone.
***Alternatively, you can press the “dock and merge” button in the bottom righthand corner of the keyboard and drag up. The keyboard will turn into thumb mode, and you can also drag it wherever you want.
2. If you put your phone on airplane mode, it will charge twice as fast.
3. Make use of offline Google Maps when traveling abroad.
While you’ve still got internet access, go to the area you want to save. In the search bar, type “ok maps” and the map will be cached for offline use.
This is also super useful for iPads that are only Wi-Fi enabled.
4. In the Calculator app, remove an accidental extra zero by swiping left to right.
If you’re, say, calculating a bunch of expenses for your taxes, you don’t have to start over if you accidentally type in extra numbers.
5. Turn on Guided Access while a child is playing with your phone or iPad.
Guided Access, once turned on, keeps users from errantly clicking or tapping within an app and ending up someplace they’re not supposed to be, or deleting something accidentally.
First, you need to go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access and turn it on. You’ll also want to turn on the Accessibility Shortcut.
Triple-click the home button in whichever app you want to turn it on for. From here, you can select any buttons that you don’t want clicked. Or you can also disable the home button while keeping the touchscreen on.

6. Take selfies using the remote on your earbuds.
Just click the volume + button on the remote on your Apple or Apple-compatible earbuds while in camera mode to click and shoot, or the middle button (play/pause) while in video mode.
No more selfie arm!
7. Quickly get to the Camera app without having to unlock your phone.
Swipe up on the little camera icon in the bottom right corner of your home screen. The Camera app will open, bypassing the unlock screen.
This is especially handy when something incredibly photo-worthy is happening and you need to access your camera ASAP. It’s also great when handing your phone to others for taking photos — they won’t need to enter in your password.

8. You can use ANY bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone or iPad.
It turns basically any iPhone or iPad into a portable laptop.
9. There’s a built-in level gauge in the Compass app.
Open up the Compass app and swipe to the left and you’ll be at the level screen. If you need to hang a picture in a pinch, this little hack could come in real handy.
10. Tap the top bar of any app to scroll back up to the top.
No more tedious thumb scrolling when you’re way down on the page.

11. Invert your colors for better nighttime browsing.

Inverting your colors will turn the screen black and the text white for less eye strain. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility. Turn on “Invert Colors.”
12. On the iPad: Did you know that a) you can add more apps to the home row and b) you can add folders to it?
A lot of people don’t even know how malleable that bottom dock is. You can fit a couple extra apps in there (the default is four, but it fits six) or swap apps in and out. Just click any app and hold until you get the jiggly icons.
And you can move folders into the dock as well. Your most important apps are always just two clicks or fewer away.
13. When ending a sentence, instead of typing a period and then a space, just tap the space bar twice.
Tapping the space bar twice adds a full stop, a space, and capitalizes the next letter. It may not seem like much, but when you’re composing a lengthy message, this little hack will really improve the speed of your typing once it becomes second nature.
14. With the remote of your earbuds, you can go to the next track or the previous track while listening to music or podcasts.
With the remote of your earbuds, you can go to the next track or the previous track while listening to music or podcasts.
This should work with any Apple-compatible earbuds with a remote.

15. Use this little trick when you want to go back and forth between the alpha and numeric keyboard.
Like, maybe you want to type a password that is a mix of letters and numbers. Click the “123” button and slide up to the character you want to input. When you let go, the screen will jump back to the alphabet keyboard.
16. Swipe right to left to banish a banner notification.
Very important to know this when that embarrassing sext shows up suddenly on your screen.
17. In Safari, hold down the period key to quickly add a domain in the search bar.
18. Use this simple Siri command for taking naps.
19. Outsmart your autocorrect by typing an extra letter when trying to spell a contraction.
Now don’t you feel like you know your portable device so much better now?

4 Tips To Increase Smartphone Charging Speeds

hi buddies,
back with another post from my favorite tech website.
its all about charging our smart phone's battery  qucickly in case we need it!
although tips looks really simple and easy,
but plays a great roll indeed.
here goes the artical:

Faced with a low battery warning right before you need to leave? These neat tricks can help you charge your smartphone faster than usual so you aren’t left with a brick in your hand.
Now, these hacks are not going to get you more battery life out of the phone. We are going to concentrate only on the speed of charging, so that when you have a plug point nearby, you’ll know what to do!

Switch It Off Or Switch Off The Right Settings

It’s simple logic. If you switch your phone off, it doesn’t have to look for Wi-Fi networks, hop on a 4G network or even mark its location on GPS. Since the phone is turned off, the battery has to do nothing but charge itself. An alternative proposition is to put your phone on Airplane Mode to speed up the charging process, but you must refrain from using it while it’s charging — your screen is the biggest battery drain.
This is the easiest advice to follow but most people will ignore it because we fear, “What if someone wants to get in touch with me and my phone isn’t turned on?” If you need to receive calls, keep your cellular reception enabled, and switch off everything else, especially your data connection (3G/4G). Also, turn your screen’s brightness to its lowest setting and keep the screen off for as long as possible.

Use The Right Power Adapter and Cable

This can’t be stressed enough. All gadgets work with different chargers, so the power adapter that comes with your smartphone is what you need to charge your device. pay attention to the amp rating. Your charger will have something like this written on it: 5.0V->1A. That 1 amp of current is what most smartphones need. If the charger has a higher amperage rating, don’t worry — your phone will still charge, but at a faster rate. If the rating is lower than 1A, then your phone will charge slower than it probably should. Note that this isn’t a hard-and-fast rule, but is true for most smartphones released in the last year.
It’s also important to use the right cable with your power adapter. Again, it’s best to stick with what you have got in the box.

Use A Wall Plug Point, Not A USB Port
The great part about your smartphone is that it can be charged through your laptop’s USB port. But this charges your phone a lot slower. There are a few reasons for this.
First, just like what we talked about with power adapters, USB ports usually can only charge at 0.5A, so it’s going to take more time compared to a 1A power adapter. Even a USB 3.0 port only goes up to 0.9A at its maximum — and chances are, you aren’t going reach that. Second, if you connect your iPhone to your Mac, for instance, it’s going to start syncing immediately, which causes your phone to charge even more slowly.

Remove Cases and Covers, Find A Cool Spot
While you don’t need to always remove the cases and covers when charging a smartphone, it’s beneficial to do that when you need to be quick about it. Smartphone batteries use lithium-ion, which follows a simple principle: a cooler battery is a better battery. So removing cases and covers will help keep the battery at room temperature or lower. It’s also smart to look for a cool spot, like the blast from a wall-unit air conditioner. Of course, none of this is needed if the average temperature in your room is already below 30 degrees Celsius.

additionally, Don’t Forget About Power Banks
While these tips are great to charge your phone faster, they do tie you down to a spot. I have found that power banks (battery packs) can be a great way to keep charging your phone even after you are no longer near a plug point. What’s your take on power banks? Would you rather use that over these tricks, or is it another cumbersome gadget to carry around?

FireChat for Android launched, lets users chat without a data connection

A new mobile messaging application called FireChat is empowering nearby smartphone users to stay in touch even when there's no cellular service or Internet connection.
In just two weeks since its release on the iPhone, FireChat already has provided a flicker of hope for people pining for more effective, secure and affordable ways to communicate. That's because the free messaging app harnesses a technology called wireless mesh networking, which might someday allow a myriad of devices to connect like links in a chain.
The technique might someday be used to tie together thousands of devices with built-in radios and make it possible to be online without having to pay for the access. It could also enable online communications in remote areas or disaster zones without Wi-Fi or cellular signals. Furthermore, the conversations in these so-called "off-the-grid" networks can't be easily hacked into by spies and mischief makers or shut down by governments trying to stifle free speech.
"We trying to create networks built by the people for the people," said Micha Benoliel, CEO of Open Garden, maker of the FireChat app.
Open Garden, a San Francisco startup with just 10 employees, is taking another step toward its ambitious goal with Thursday's release of a FireChat app for Android phones.
FireChat could be an even hotter commodity on Android given the demographic differences between that platform's user base and the typical iPhone owner. The app already has been installed on more than 1 million iOS devices.
(Also see: FireChat lets you chat without a data connection)

Many smartphones running on Google Inc.'s free Android software are cheaper than Apple Inc.'s iPhone. That has made Android phones the top-selling mobile devices in less affluent countries, including in regions where Internet access is inadequate or expensive.
Google is among the big Internet companies intrigued with mesh networking's potential to bring more of the world online.
Sundar Pichai, Google's executive in charge of Android, has touted mesh networks as a way to connect wearable computers, such as the company's Glass eyewear. Mesh networks also could be used to bring a wide variety of everyday appliances online, helping to build an Internet of things instead of just websites.
FireChat's reach so far is limited. When connecting off the grid, iPhone app users have only been able to send text and photos to other FireChat users within a range of 30 to 100 feet.
Later this year, Open Garden plans to upgrade FireChat's iPhone app so off-the-grid users will be able to hopscotch through a daisy chain of devices to extend the reach of a local network. If this works, a FireChat user sitting in the right-field bleachers of a baseball game would be able to text with a friend on the other side of the stadium if enough other iPhone users in the ballpark also are on FireChat.
This extended range will be available immediately on FireChat's Android app because Open Garden released a mesh networking app for that operating system nearly two years ago.
FireChat's iPhone app piggybacks on an often overlooked feature called the Multipeer Connectivity Framework that Apple Inc. included in its latest mobile operating system, iOS 7, released last September. Apple says more than 80 percent of people using its mobile devices rely on iOS 7.
For now, Android phones and iPhones with the FireChat app won't be able to engage in off-the-grid conversation. Open Garden, though, believes it will eventually be able to make mesh networking work on phones running on different operating systems.
As the mesh networking software improved, Benoliel realized Open Garden needed to come up with application to demonstrate what the technology could do. In that practical sense, FireChat is similar to the word processing and spreadsheet programs that Microsoft released decades ago to help broaden the appeal of its Windows operating system for personal computers, said Christophe Daligault, Open Garden's marketing chief.
FireChat's development was driven by the popularity of other mobile messaging apps such as Snapchat and WhatsApp that enabled smartphone users to text and send pictures to their friends and family without having to pay smartphone carriers.
Like texts and photos sent on Snapchat, nothing transmitted through FireChat is saved. All content evaporates once the app is closed. FireChat also allows all its users to remain anonymous, another feature that is becoming popular on a variety of mobile messaging apps, such as Wickr and Rumr.
There still aren't enough people using FireChat to ensure users will find someone nearby to message. To pique people's interest in the app, FireChat offers an "everyone" option that allows users to enter a digital chat room with up to 80 other random users located in the same country. This option requires a Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
Dailigault concedes FireChat's chat room isn't as high-minded as mesh networking.
"We are finding a lot of people are using it when they are just looking for something to do for a few minutes," Dailigault said. "Some of the discussions there are turning out to be more interesting than anything they can find on Facebook."

A Great Guide to Google Now!

hello guys,
just before a day, i started giving attention to google now,
its simply ausom!
its very useful,
very Convenient and easy to use.
here goes an artical  explainig the settings and features of google now
hope you'll like it.

How to get the best out of Google Now

google now privacy data
There’s been a fair bit of confusion about what Google Now really is. It’s easy to describe it as Google’s version of Siri, but it’s actually a lot more ambitious than that. Sure, you can use it to set reminders to buy milk or have dinner with friends, and you can ask it basic questions about the weather tomorrow or who directed The Shining, but the real attraction lies in its abilities to preempt your desires and needs.
If you let it learn about you and your habits, then it can throw up information that it thinks you might be interested in. News, sports scores, weather, and traffic information is served up in real time based on your previous movements and searches. Information is served up in the form of cards, which you can tap for more detail or swipe away to ignore. When it works, Google Now can give you what you want before you even know you want it.
The set up
You won’t get great results unless you set Google Now up with all the information it needs. This will involve some trust on your part. For heavy users of Google services it won’t be an issue, but anyone with privacy concerns is liable to think twice. Google Now is built-in to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and above, and you can also now get it as a free iOS app (it’s part of the Google Search app).
It’s worth spending some time in the settings before you start to use Google Now. On Android you’ll probably have a Google search bar on your home screen and you can tap it to bring up Google Now, or you can select Google from the app drawer. On iOS you’ll want to open the Google Search app. You should be asked to set it up the first time you use it, but you can return to the app and enter settings whenever you like, in order to tweak things.
Google_Now_Settings
Go to Privacy & accounts and tap Manage location history and then Location settings and make sure that Location reporting is on, Report from this device is ticked and Enable location history is ticked.
Now go back to Settings > Privacy & accounts and make sure that Web history is on. You can also edit your Web history from here. Alternatively you can access it on your computer and laptop. Just click on your name at the top right on the Google page, when you are signed in to your Google account, and choose Account and then click on Products over on the left and choose Web history. You’ll find detailed stats and categorized information on your searches. You can turn it on or off via the Settings cog at the top right. Google Now will draw on this information, if you let it.
Back in the Google Now Settings menu there are some more things worth mentioning. Tap Google Now All cards to choose exactly what you want to receive cards about. Tap Notifications to choose exactly which kinds of cards merit a notification and how it should sound. The My stuff option will allow you to set your home and work locations, set your favorite sports teams, and choose stocks that you are interested in. Finally, in Voice, you might want to Download offline speech recognition so you can add reminders when you’re offline.

Pre-emptive Google Now
If you really want to get a feel for what Google Now can do, then you have to let it run for an extended period of time. It needs at least a week to start to get a handle on your movements and the kind of information that you are interested in. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t turn GPS on to get your location and it shouldn’t be a major drain on your battery life. Just let it to gather intel in the background, and you’ll reap the rewards over time.
The more it learns about you, the more useful it potentially becomes. Being able to tie together the fact that you have an appointment across town, with real-time traffic conditions, to give you a reminder about when you need to leave and what route to take to get there on time is impressive, but it obviously won’t be useful for everyone. Much depends on the way you use your phone and what your habits are.
As cards pop up you can swipe them away to get rid of them, tap on them to get more detailed information, or tap the small “i” icon at the top right to change associated settings. You can also scroll down to the bottom to request that it Show more cards. You’ll tend to find it doesn’t show much at first, but over time it should display more and more interesting and relevant cards.
Using Google Now as an assistant
When it’s not gazing into its crystal ball to bring you nuggets of potentially useful information, you can also use Google Now as a good old-fashioned assistant. Think of it as the personal assistant you can’t afford. Since release, Google has been adding a steady stream of voice commands and new functions, so you might be surprised at what’s on offer.
Google_Now_Examples
You can type traditional searches into the search box as normal, but if you tap the microphone you’ll unlock truly convenient voice search and commands. Here’s a small sample list of potential questions and commands:
◾Who is the CEO of Google?
◾What is the meaning of smartphone?
◾Show me the stocks for Sony.
◾What time is it in New York?
◾Will it rain tomorrow?
◾Show all hotels near me.
◾Go to techbuddyishere.blogspot.in
◾What is 13 stones in kilograms?
◾Premier league table.
◾Play Blue Monday.
◾Wake me up in an hour.
◾Call Jenny.
◾Images of the Empire State Building.
◾When will BA 2215 land?
◾When is my next appointment?
◾Remind me to take out the trash when I get home.
◾Launch Google Plus.
◾What’s this song?
A lot of questions Google Now will reply to out loud. When you order it to perform an action, such as calling someone, or launching an app, it will show a loading bar, so you have time to quit if it misinterpreted your request. When you ask “What’s this song?” it will listen for a moment and then tell you, as well as providing a link to buy it in Google Play.
The voice input is generally solid, but much depends on your accent. Background noise can also cause a problem with it interpreting your speech. However, even with a retry, it’s often faster than typing.
The future of Google Now
There are some features in there that don’t seem to work for everybody, or that seem somewhat limited, but have stunning potential. There are also some exciting additions on the way.
One of them seems to pull in the functionality of Google Goggles, so you can use the camera to identify objects. This was rolled out in a previous version of Google Now, but seems to have been removed, possibly because it isn’t ready for prime time. Get the Google Goggles app if you want to try it out. You can still use the “Scan barcode” command to use your camera to scan barcodes within Google Now.
FieldTripYou might be interested in checking out Google’s Field Trip app. It highlights all sorts of cool and interesting things in your immediate vicinity and we can see it being folded in to Google Now at some point.
At Google I/O we got a glimpse of the future for Google Now. You will be able to activate the voice search or commands by saying “OK, Google” and it will anticipate follow up questions and try to provide useful related information before you ask for it. It will also remember your previous questions and handle relatively complex requests. Information and recommendations on music, books, TV shows, and video games that you might like is also rolling out now. We’ll have to check it out before we decide whether it’s advert spam by another route, or genuinely useful.
In any case, it’s clear that Google is committed to improving Now and it already surpasses the competition, if you give it the chance. Half-hearted use of Google Now will not impress, it’s an all or nothing deal if you really want to feel the benefits.
