Sub $100 entry-level Nexus smartphone in the works

Google’s Nexus smartphone are generally great value for their price and offer the latest and greatest in terms of Android operating system. According to a new report from MTKSJ, Google is currently working on an ultra-cheap variant of Nexus smartphone which would bear a sub $100 (Rs 6,500) price tag. Google is said to be collaborating with MediaTek this time by using their processor chipset in this entry-level Nexus smartphone.

MediaTek is known for its great value for money mobile processor SoCs which are widely used in the entry-level as well as mid-range Android smartphones. This would be the first time ever Google will be using a MediaTek processor. This goes on to show the increasing popularity of MediaTek as an SoC provider. A lot of smartphone brands from China and India such as Gionee, Micromax, Karbonn, Xolo, etc use MediaTek as the primary SoC provider in their smartphones. Earlier, Google has collaborated with Samsung for Nexus S and Nexus 10, TI for Galaxy Nexus, Nvidia for Nexus 7 and Qualcomm for Nexus One, Nexus 4, Nexus5 and Nexus 7 (2013).
Looks like the real battle this year would be in the entry-level priced smartphone market as Google, Obi mobiles and Motorola would be focussing in this market space.
